Murielle Ahoure made history at the end of the day on Friday, March 2, 2018. And what a way to end the day.

First, Katerina Johnson Thompson finally won a well deserved global medal in the pentathlon.
And then, Cote D’Ivoire won their first gold medal, and then a silver medal, both in the same race.
Murielle Ahoure, with a super start, dominated the 60 meters with a fine 6.97. The time was the fastest time in 8 years. And at 7.05, was Marie Jose Ta Lou, another fine athlete from the CIV (two time silver medalist at the World Outdoors in 2017 London), with Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji taking bronze, also in 7.05!
Anita Marton won the shot put gold, the first time an athlete from Hungary has won a World Indoor title! Anita told us, that her win really had not sunken in.
What a day of track and field, watch for more of our coverage from @runblogrun!
WORLD INDOORS DAY 2
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Murielle Ahoure after winning the 60 m: “This last year has been so difficult with my father (who has died of cancer). I knew he was watching from up there.
“I was talking to him before the race, saying ‘please Dad help me in the race.’ I couldn’t get a gold medal when he was alive.”
Anita Marton after winning the shot put: “It is an historic moment for my team because it is the first World Indoor gold for Hungary. The Chinese are very good competitors so I’m really glad I managed to beat (Lijiao) Gong, but I am sure we will stay friends. Shot putters are very close. We are like family. This result belongs to all my team but especially my coach who has been with me for 18 years. We will have a celebration tonight and then back at home with my family.”
Katarina Johnson-Thompson after winning the pentathlon: “It has been up and down; a long old day but the crowd have really pushed me on. Thanks to them for coming out in the snow, they got me around that 800m. The shot put went best for me. I’m so happy because my warm-up wasn’t good but I got an indoor PB which I was delighted with. It is an event I struggle with so to get a PB was amazing. It has been a really fun day.”
