Chepchirchir defended
LISBON (POR, Oct 15): Kenya’s Sarah Chepchirchir defended her title in the Lisbon Marathon, clocking 2:27:57 ahead of Ethiopians Afera Godfay (2:28:46) and Sichala Kumeshi (2:38:52). Kenya’s Ishhimael Chemtan won the men’s race in 2:10:51 from Bahrain’s El Hassan El-Abassi (2:10:57) and Kenya’s Daniel Limo (2:15:30). Bahrain’s Eunice Chumba won the half marathon in 68:48 from Kenya’s Visiline Jepkesho (69:31) and world marathon champion Rose Chelimo (69:48) while Sara Moreira was the top Portuguese finisher in sixth in 73:29. Ethiopia’s Birhan Nebebew won the men’s half marathon in 62:02 from Eritrea’s Goitom Kifle (62:14) and Ethiopia’s Deme Abate (62:20).
