TORUN (POL, Feb 10): After breaking the world 2000m record on Tuesday, Genzebe Dibaba came up short in her attempt to break her world indoor 1500m record of 3:55.17 but the Ethiopian set a world-leading mark of 3:58.80 ahead of teammate Axumawit Embaye (4:04.95) and Meraf Bahta (4:06.40) with home favourite Sofia Ennaoui fourth (4:06.59). Ronnie Baker also set a world-leading mark of 6.46 in the 60m ahead of Chijindu Ujah (6.56) while world indoor champion Barbara Pierre ensured an American double in the women’s 60m in 7.13. Ezinne Okparaebo given the same time (and initially given the win) with Gayon Evans (7.15) and Ewa Swoboda (7.21) third and fourth respectively. Orlando Ortega lowered his Spanish 60m hurdles record to 7.48 while Croatia’s Andrea Ivancevic took a surprise win in the women’s sprint hurdles ahead of Jasmin Stowers, 7.96 to 7.99. Joanna Jozwik broke the 18-year-old Polish indoor 800m record with a 1:59.29 world-lead to win by two seconds while there was an upset in the men’s 800m with Nicholas Kipkoech beating Adam Kszczot for the first time this year, 1:46.34 to 1:46.44. Bethwel Birgen won the men’s 1500m in 3:37.63 ahead of Marcin Lewandowski’s 3:38.24. Elsewhere, Olympic final Bralon Taplin clocked 45.59 WL to defeat world indoor champion Pavel Maslak (45.80) in the 400m, Iga Baumgart 52.17 to win the 400m, Sylwester Bednarek 2.27m in the high jump, Anna Jagaciak 13.97m in the triple jump while Nicole Buchler cleared 4.60m to win the pole vault (Lisa Ryzih no-heighted at 4.40m).
