EME NEWS (JUL 30, 2015) UPDATE
STOCKHOLM (SWE): Nearly 11 000 spectators saw the last pre Beijing DL meet. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce fulfilled her favorite and poster girl role. But not like that for Mutaz Essa Barshim and David Oliver. Ibarguen continues in top winning streak currently in our sport and secured her Diamond Race win. It was also a Czech night with Spotakova and Hejnova winning and Holusa as second breaking old national mark in the 1500 m.
Event by event review
200m: Edward (+0.3) showed great form in Toronto and continues in that with 20.04 win over Jobodwana and Guliyev with Cotton.
400m: Cedenio scored the win as only one sub 45 (44.97) ahead of Santos 45.21. He is the man to watch, overall third B race winner Sanford 45.23.
800m (non-DL): Balla per expectations won in 1:45.33, the Swedish hope Almgren faded at the end to fourth.
1500m: Souleiman won as planned in 3:33.33, second Holusa beat the others in NR 3:34.26 improving the former mark from 1983. And behind him his rival from Euroindoors Ozbilen.
Steeple: None of the four DL winners in 2015 were here as the Kenyan trials take priority. So virtually unknown Hicham Sigueni wins after strong finish over teammate Taleb in in PB 8:16.24 to 8:16.26.
110mH: Ortega continues in his World champs as he calls the DL, another win in 13.18 (-0.3). Shubenkov over Oliver next ranking in one of the best fields of the evening.
HJ: After no-height in London a win here, how changing is the high jump. Duffield as only one clears 232 in 3rd attempt. Barshim, Tamberi, Kynard 229.
LJ: Dendy hasn’t been beaten in the long jump since March but today no chance despite 809 against Rutherford who ruled here with 834, 832 and 813.
DT: Milanov was close to another win, but Malachowski achieved in last throw 65.95 season best.
Women
100m: SAFP is on top form and in cold confirmed that with 10.93 (-0.2) win and missed MR by only 0.03.
200m (non-DL): Townsend fulfilled favorite role with 22.67 (+1.6). Kielbasinska 23.07 beats Jodie Williams 23.09 for second.
800m: First French win in women 800m ever in DL, Lamote with strong finish 1:59.91. Sharp and Martinez followed but with a 2 time. Sum is already confirmed DR winner.
3000m: US 5k specialist Mackey gets an unexpected win in PB 8:52.99. Poland´s Plis second and Deselegn national record for UAE (but she has better time indoors). Unusual DL race without Kenyan and Ethiopian presence.
400mH: Hejnova made it three DL wins in a row and overtook Spencer in the DR. But Petersen chased her well at the end 54.37 to 54.42.
HJ (non-DL): A mostly Swedish affair, Kinsey is on-form but with 183 lost to Skoog and Estonian Haas both 189.
PV: Silva confirmed her lists position as the only one cleared 481 and tried twice at the 486 mark, would be WL and MR.
LJ (non-DL): The home fans hope for a Jarder win (655) but it was Jana from Veldakova twins getting with last attempt of 660 (0.0).
TJ: Ibarguen made it for 28 wins in a row and also another Diamond Race crown already third after 2014 and 2013 jumping wet 14.69 (+0.4) and all other 4 valid attempts would be enough to win.
JT: Spotakova improved her season best to 65.66 (and had one more throw 64.62 enough to win). She also leads now the DR with 11 points. Shape in right time.
