Hungary is a small country in Eastern Europe.

Hungary is landlocked with boundaries with 7 countries – clockwise from the west: Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia.
The Hungarian state was established in the late 9th century AD. In the late 19th and early 20th century, it joined Austria to form Austria-Hungary, which collapsed after the first world war.
After the Second World War, Hungary became part of the Soviet Union’s sphere of influence.
In1989, Hungary became an independent democratic republic and joined the European Union in 2004

More than half the population identify as Christian
The Hungarian language is spoken only in Hungary in regions bordering the country. It is different from all other European languages.
The Hungarian football (soccer) team was one of the best in the world in the 1950s and early 1960s, reaching the final of the 1954 World Cup.

Hungary typically wins 1 or 2 medals at Track and Field World Championships. Seven of the last ten medals won were in throwing events.
