NEW YORK CITY MARATHON FLASH BACK
NEW YORK (USA): Stephen Shay ran the New York Marathon on Sunday (16th in 2:19:47), for the first time, in memory of his brother Ryan, a 2:14 marathoner who died when racing the marathon in 2007, report AP. Stephen is aiming to qualify on the US marathon team for the US Olympics. It was in the US Olympic marathon trials in which Ryan died.
NEW YORK (USA): The New York City Marathon has recognised their 1 millionth finisher; Katherine Slingluff. In being the one millionth finisher she has won guaranteed entry into the race for life and free running gear. Inform AP.
NEW YORK (USA): Claudio Berardelli, the coach of Rita Jeptoo, has spoken to LetsRun about his athlete’s positive test. “I feel stupid. I feel like I’m no longer able to do this job — I don’t know what is my real impact because now it seems like there is something going on behind the scenes,” explained Berardelli, who has coached Jeptoo since 2012. “If the story of Rita can be the key to open the door of the dirty system, please let Rita pay for it,” he added.
NEW YORK (USA): Mission for Sunday in New York for Mary Keitany was to delete 2011 when, due to a wrong tactics, she started too fast and finished too tired.”I am really happy for winning, being 16 months far from distance due to maternity was not easy but now i am really happy to be back and to have done it in New York”. Her coach Gabriele Nicola and her manager Gianni Demadonna were satisfied. “She was physically perfect in 2011 but today was perfect also in her mind improving so much in her economy of the race,” said Demadonna. Even in bad weather conditions Keitany demonstrated her talent between 35k and 40k when she ran 16:15 (that would be2:19 pace) before running an impressive 7:07 in last 2195 m. NEW YORK (USA): The impressive number of finishers at the NYC Marathon was 30 034 males and 20 398 females.
NEW YORK (USA): The three women who made the New York City Marathon podium gave their take on the race to the media afterwards. Portugal’s Sara Moreira said that she dedicated her 3rd place finish to her son, William, who had turned 1 the day before the race. Runner-up Jemima Sumgong of Kenya spoke about how she thought that she had a good chance of winning the race when she gapped Mark Keitany, but admitted that she knew Keitany was capable of coming back. She also revealed that it was a hamstring injury that kept her out of the Chicago Marathon. Mary Keitany said that she had planned to up the pace at around the 20 mile mark, adding that she was very happy that she had a good day and was able to win.
NEW YORK (USA): Wilson Kipsang admitted, to the media at the post r
ace press conference, that he felt “very strong” from the beginning of Sunday’s New York City Marathon. The former world record holder said that the hilly nature of the course and the windy conditions made for a situation where nobody wanted to lead. He also said that he really trusted in his ability to kick and admitted that the fact that he needed to win the race in order to claim the WMM jackpot was at the forefront of his mind throughout. Ethiopia’s Gebre Gebremariam said that he was very happy with his third place finish as he does not feel as if he is in good shape. The runner-up, Lelisa Desisa, also said that he was very happy with his result as he was in much discomfort during the race as he needed to use the bathroom.
