This is an interview by EBU RADIO with Tori Franklin, bronze medalist in the Women’s Triple Jump at the Oregon 22 World Athletics Championships, July 14-25, 2022.
How long have I been bemoaning the fact that the US should have absolutely amazing triple jumpers with all the success we have in basketball, the long jump, and soccer? One of my proudest moments in the 1980s was getting to speak to Michael Jordan and telling him that he should have been a triple jumper! He did a long jump for those geeks who did not know.
Tori Franklin finally put it all together, in the right place and the right time, and presto, magic, Tori takes the bronze in the World Athletics Championships with a 14.72m triple jump! That’s 48 feet, 3.5 inches for all those Americans who still do not care about the metric system!
Tori Franklin and Keturah Orji have been dancing around the medal positions for some time. Keturah was sixth in Eugene. So happy for Tori Franklin and her bronze medal.
