In hot weather Second Sanya Richards-Ross back to fast 49.66, her best since winning the Olympic gold in 2012. Third Natasha Hastings 50.53 and fourth Jessica Beard 50.81. Olympic silver medalist Erik Kynard overcame an early bobble to win the men’s high jump with a clearance at 235 equaling the Hornet Stadium record set at the 2000 Olympic Trials by Nathan Leeper. Kynard, who missed his first try at 225, had the bar raised afterwards to 241, but missed on all three attempts. Tie for second Nick Ross and Dusty Jonas 228. Dawn Harper-Nelson and Queen Harrison raced stride for stride as the top two in the women’s 100 m hurdles final in 12.55 and 12.56 (-1.6). Third Lolo Jones 12.65 ahead of Jasmin Stowers 12.78 and World champion Brianna Rollins 12.81. Faster times in semis 12.54 Harper-Nelson, 12.55 Jones and 12.74 Rollins. Josh Mance was second in 44.89, and U.S. indoor champion and 2014 World Indoor 4×400 gold medalist Kyle Clemons set a personal best of 45.00 in third. Great depth with fourth Vernon Norwood 45.02 PB, fifth Manteo Mitchell 45.09 and sixth Mike Berry 45.12. Emma Coburn was striding solo at the bell in the women’s steeple as she cruised to her third national title in 9:19.72, the third-fastest time ever by an American and a new USATF Outdoor Championship record. Second Ashley Higginson 9:27.59 PB. A highly competitive men’s 1500m saw fast finisher Leo Manzano winning in 3:38.64 over Pat Casey 3:38.04 and only 6 thousands separated Lopez Lomong and Will Leer 3:39.11 for both for third place. Olympic and world winner Brittney Reese marked 692 (+1.9), earning her sixth national outdoor title in women’s long jump. After fouling on three of her first four attempts, Reese made her fifth jump her best to seal the victory. Tianna Bartoletta was the runner-up 686 (+1.2) with all her five legal jumps over 680. Third Funmi Jimoh 681 (-0.2). Sharon Day-Monroe won the heptathlon with sixth best mark in the World 2014 6470 (585-46.84-2:11.54 second day) over Barbara Nwaba 6307 PB.
