KATIE MACKEY – REFLECTING ON PAYTON JORDAN 2014
On Sunday, May 4 at Payton Jordan, Katie Mackey set a huge PR in the 5k with a blazing time of 15:04, the fastest by an American woman this year; read her reaction here
In 2008 I ran 16:01 at Payton Jordan while at the University of Washington. Although I was excited about the personal best, I also remember being disappointed that I didn’t achieve my goal and break 16 minutes. I sat down with Coach Kelly Bean and she told me 3 things that I still remember to this day: believe in yourself, be patient and continue to work hard. It’s so true! Keep doing those 3 things and the breakthroughs will eventually come. I also met Nick Symmonds and we took this picture, it’s crazy that in a few years I would almost run a full minute faster at the same meet and he would be my teammate!
