Lauryn Williams was always the sprinter I would never bet against in a national champs or World or Olympic Trials. One of the toughest sprinters in the sport, Lauryn’s great sense of humor hides an athlete with huge competitiveness and the desire to succeed. It should not be surprising to see that Lauryn is now only the fifth athlete to win Olympic medals in both the Winter and Summer Olympics! Her bobsled silver, which was nearly a gold, showed the talents that we in track and field have taken for granted for nearly a decade!
SOCHI (RUS): London 2012 relay gold medalist Lauryn Williams did not became the first woman ever to win gold at Summer and Winter Games. In last round pilot Elana Meyers with Williams lost their lead to Canadian gold medal defenders Kellie Humphries and Heather Moyse by 0.10. Still with the silver medal Williams is the fifth Olympian to medal in both Summer and Winter Olympics. Third USA second bob with former heptathlete Jamie Greubel and former shot putter Aja Evans. From other track athletes surprise fourth place for Dutch hurdler Judith Vis, 6th Belgium with sprinter Hanna Marien, 8th Russia with Olga Stulneva (formerly Fyodorova 2004 relay medalist). Lolo Jones was in her winter games debut only 11th, Jana Pittman for Australia after good last round 14th out of 19 participating teams.
