Bryan Clay: I don’t really remember my first decathlon. I know it was in Hawaii, and all I really remember is throwing the javelin off the grass.
RBR, #2: What would you tell young multi-eventers was your worst assumption about the decathlon?
Bryan Clay: I think I thought it would be easier than it was. You need to be ready for a decathlon. It may seem hard on paper but it is way harder in reality.
RBR, #3: What do you recall from the Athens Olympics?
Bryan Clay: I remember just being in awe during the long jump, and I realized that I was competing in the Olympic Games and that this (Athens) was the birthplace of the Olympics.
RBR, #4: What do you remember about your gold medal performance in Beijing?
Bryan Clay: Beijing was cool! I just remember how big everything was. The Birds Nest was unreal and I am not sure I will ever see an opening ceremony like that again!
RBR, #5: Tell us about the importance of the London Olympics to you?
Bryan Clay: London would mark a 12 year career for me at the top of the decathlon. Also that would give me a chance at three Olympic medals, which has never been done.
RBR, #6: How has it been working with ASICS America?
Bryan Clay: ASICS has been an absolute pleasure to work with. They really make you feel like you are a part of a family and not just another number. They played a huge role in my preparation for the Olympic Trials.
Special thanks to Paul Doyle, doyle management, Ashley Wallace, Shannon Scott, Anne Adams, ASICS America.
