Pars close to 80 meters
SOFIA (BUL, Mar 19): In bad weather conditions (chilly, about 4ºC with
light rain and breeze) Krisztian Pars registered the best result during
the first day of 11th European Cup Winter Throwing. He achieved
excellent 79.84 in hammer throw with five throws over 79 metres. And it
should be noted that the conditions in the circles were dangerous
because of the wet conditions despite the fact that the organizers made
everything possible to provide dry surfaces. But the humidity was very
high – about 90 % and it was not enough to brush the circle, it became
again wet after a minute. Behind Pars Belarussian Yuri Shayunou (77.41)
and Ukrainian Oleksiy Sokyrskiy (76.84) made their medals in fifth
round. Barcelona silver medalist Niccola Vizzoni was 6th (74.58). In the
U23 hammer Siarhei Kalamoets of Belarus snatched the victory in fifth
round (72.94) over Norwegian Eivind Henriksen who leaded after four
rounds with first and second throw exactly of 72.37. Turkish record
holder Ercument Olgundeniz took the victory over Dutch Eric Cadee in
discus with over a meter (63.31 – 62.15) and Romanian Sergiu Ursu third
with 62.00. German favorite Markus Munch was fourth (61.25). In the U23
discus the huge man Mykyta Nesterneko of Ukraine won the gold with
fourth attempt (59.71), Briton Brett Morse tried to attack with his last
throw (the day became already rather dark), but he has 21 sm spare for
the victory (59.50). The world junior record holder Vira Rebryk was
steady in the bad conditions and won U23 women javelin (57.95 in second
round). Estonian junior Liina Laasma improved national junior record to
57.04 and was second. It was a battle at women’s U23 shot put where
Hungarian Anita Marton was leading from third round (17.92) , but
Russian Yevgeniya Kolodko tried to answer with 17.85 (personal best) in
sixth effort. In the women shot put without German favorite Schwanitz
the final result was surprisingly worse than the U23 category. Alena
Kopets of Belarus achieved 17.71 to win over French Jessica Cerival
17.52. Mighty Italian Chiara Rosa won bronze with 17.30. Women javelin
did not register 60+ throws, Ukrainain Hanna Hatsko who was third before
last round, managed in the final attempt 58.99, enough to win. Silver
for Esther Eisenlauer of Germany (56.99) and bronze for Iceland national
record holder Asids Hjalmsdottir 56.44.
Gong with world leading shot put
CHENGDU (CHN, Mar 19): Berlin bronze medalist Gong Lijiao improved her
indoor best in shot put to 19.93 at National Indoor GP meet. It is also
world indoor leader 2011. Fast 60 m by Su Bingtian. In heats the Asian
Games relay winner clocked new national record 6.56 and confirmed it
with 6.59 in the finals. 19-years old Wei Yongli was the fastest in
women 60 m in life-time best 7.34. Informs Tilastopaja.
US Saturday Action (Eaton JT best)
CHARLOTTE: Fred Townsend clocked 13.58 (+0.7) at 110 m hurdles during
second day of Charlotte 49er Classic. Chris Davis posted windy 10.28
(+3.1) in the 100 m.
SAN DIEGO: Fresh NCAA Indoor Champ at 400 m Demetrius Pinder of Bahamas
improved his 200 m best at Aztec Invitational to 20.54 (+1.8). Eric
Kynard cleared outdoor best in high jump (228). In the women 100 m
hurdles the return of 400H specialist after injury was registered.
Lashinda Demus clocked impressive 13.17 against -3.3 wind. It was her
first competitions since last July. Texas AM clocked 43.90 in the 4×100
m.
LAFAYETTE: Jamaican discus record holder Jason Morgan came close to his
national record with 62.01 (62.95 in 2007) at Louisiana Classics meet.
EUGENE: British European 10k medalist Chris Thompson won the 3000 m at
the Oregon Preview meet timed at 7:52.64. Heptathlon indoor world record
holder Ashton Eaton improved his javelin best to 56.59 (he was 6th).
His previous PB from 2008 was 53.93. Tyler Mulder achieved 1:46.86 in
the 800 m, Kenyan Sally Kipyego 8:51.07 in the 3000 m and Bridget Franek
clocked US best in the 2000 m steeple with 6:25.31. World best by
Violetta Frankiewicz of Poland is 6:03.38 from 2006.
ORLANDO: World youth medalist from Bressanone Allison Peter of US Virgin
Islands clocked solid 23.22 (+1.3) to win at Black and Gold
Invitational.
OTHER RESULTS
KINGSTON (JAM, Mar 19): At Jamaican Carifta Trials (Stadium East) new
girls sprinting sensation Christiana Williams (will be 17 years old in
October) ran 11.39 (-1.3) at the 100 m. Kemar Bailey-Cole of Racers TC
did 10.41 to take the boys 100m in similar wind conditions.
BALDOVEC (CZE, Mar 19): Czech CC champions were crowned Milan Kocourek
in the 10 km (37:25), Lukas Kourek at 4 km (15:18) and in women race at 6
km Lucie Sekanova (25:46).
MAYAGUEZ (PUR, Mar 19): 20-years old home sprinter Miguel Lopez equalled
his PB at the 100 m with 10.39 (+1.4) during a Spring meet here. World
400 m hurdles medalist Javier Culson tested his endurance at the 800 m
and was second in personal best 1:49.97. Universidad Metropolitana
achieved 39.36 in men´s 4×100 m.
OTHER NEWS
TOKYO (JPN): Whether to hold Nagano Marathon or not will be decided on
March 22, writes Ken Nakamura. At the present time, the opinions (pros
and cons) are split into half. Nagano marathon was perceived as the new
possibility to select the team for World Championships. If Nagano is
also cancelled, marathons abroad like London will likely to be
designated as the qualifying race for Japanese runners.
MADRID (ESP): The Spanish athletics federation RFEA has announced that
the javelin thrower Nora Aida Bicet has acquired Spanish citizenship.
The 33-year-old former Cuban won the Spanish winter championships for
long throws last weekend, her first competition as a Spaniard. Bicet has
a best of 63.32m from 2004 and the same summer she finished seventh at
the 2004 Olympic Games. Last year, she threw 58.53. She last competed
internationally for Cuba in 2005.
GELNHAUSEN (GER): Top German marathon runner Irina Mikitenko will
compete two weeks before London Marathon at the Brunssum 10 km race in
Netherlands (Apr 3). Currently she is at training camp in Potchefstroom,
South Africa.
PALO ALTO (USA): Half-marathon world medalist and Beijing olympian
Dathan Ritzenhein underwent end of this week surgery on left Achilles and
right foot. He writes on his twitter and adds: “Not as bad as it
sounds.” After 3-6 weeks he might be back to training.
ATHENS (GRE): Greek media were surprised to recieve the news that twice
olympic triple jump
medalist Hrysopiyi Devetzi (35, in the mean-time semi-retired but was
still
thinking about London 2012) was banned for two years. The ban ends on
December 8, 2012 and that means she will not be able to compete at the
Games next year. She failed to submit a doping control on May 23, 2009
in an out of competition test while at training camp in Ukraine. Media
were not aware in Greece that since 2009 such a case exists because
Devetzi was not competing since then and was openly thinking about
ending her career The 2009 was the last year she competed.
Her national records are outdoors 15.32 (2004) and indoors 15.00
(2008).
PUNTA UMBRIA (ESP): Former 800 m world record holder Wilson Kipketer
and London 2012 head Sebastian Coe completed a 4 km charity race on the
course of today´s World CC Championships in Spain. “Anything more than
800m is very tough for me,” Kipketer was quoted after clocking 14:49
(12th overall). Also running Rosa Mota, Fermin Cacho and Sonia
O´Sullivan who was the fastest woman in 15:15. Fastest man was former
steeple specialist Luis Miguel Martin (39) in 12:30.
