Chris Solinsky broke the AR for 10,000 meters last month. Bernard Lagat ran his PB for 3,000 meters last week. Both will be running the 5,000 meters at the Bislett Games on Friday evening, in the hopefully, cool, clear June night sky in Oslo, Norway. In Solinsky’s interview with RBR, he noted that Oslo was a key event for him, along with running under thirteen minutes at the Nike Prefontaine on July 3.

Chaunte Howard Lowe set a new AR for the high jump of 2.04m or 6′-8.25″ on Sunday, May 30, in Cottbus, Germany, breaking the 22 year old record of Louise Ritter (2.03m, 6-7.75, 1988). This was only three days after Lowe had defeated Blanka Vlasic, the current world champion, both indoor and out, in a rainy Ostrava. Watch Howard Lowe and Vlasic will be competing in the high jump in Oslo, Norway on Friday night!

SOLINSKY VS. LAGAT, HOWARD VS. VLASIC

OSLO (NOR): As per current
shape US athletes could shine in events not totally expected before the season
at FridayÂ´s third IAAF Diamond League, the Bislett Games in Oslo. High jump will
be a clash of world champion Blanka Vlasic against fresh US record holder
Chaunte Howard-Lowe (204 on Sunday in Cottbus). Spanish Ruth Beitia and Russian
Svetlana Shkolina are also in good shape. In the 5000 m not only lot of
Kenyans and Ethiopians but also two US runners will fight for top spot and
national record (12:56.27 of Dathan Ritzenhein in Zurich last year). 2007 World champion Bernard Lagat lowered his
outdoor 3000 m
PB in Ostrava but was not the winner, Chris Solinsky improved the US record at 10 000 m to 26:59.60 on
May 1 in
California. Main Kenyan rivals will be Doha winner Eliud Kipchoge, Ostrava 3000 m best Yusuf Biwott and
Hengelo 3000 m
winner Vincent Chepkok.

BRAZZAVILLE (CGO, May 30):
African Area Permit meet, the Grand Prix in Brazzaville registered fast meet
record of Jamaican Lerone Clarke at 100 m with 10.21 (+0.6). Behind him Obinna Metu
of Nigeria (10.31) and Egyptian record holder Amr Seoud (10.32). In the 200 m Metu won (20.66, -0.6)
over Seoud (20.69). Steeple world champion Ezekiel Kemboi of Kenya dominated in
8:17.55. African Champion Amantle Montsho of Botswana clocked good double 23.05
(-0.7) at 200 m
and 50.64 at 400 m.
Fast also the 45.63 of South African Ofentse Mogawane in the 400 m. Impressive 3:38.16 1500 m win for 17 years old
Gideon Mageka who won last year the World Youth Championships in Italy.
Unexpected European win for Lilia Barbulescu of Romania in the 1500 m (4:08.23) over
Ethiopian Meskerem Assefa (4:08.78). In technical events Slovak Renata Medgyesova
won the long jump (654, -1.0), Portugal record holder Marco Fortes the shot put
(19.45) and US Gia Lewis-Smallwood in discus (60.39, over Romanian Nicoleta
Grasu 60.11).

STAMBOLOVA AGAIN SUB 51

KHANIA (GRE, May 31): Reigning
European 400 m
Champion Bulgarian Vanya Stambolova confirmed good shape at 62nd Venizelia Meet
in Khania at Island Crete with another sub 51 time (50.95). The European
Athletics Classic meet was held in good weather (25 degrees), some-times little
too much wind. SwedenÂ´s Berlin participant Michel Torneus was unlucky as his
would-be PB 818 had +2.1 wind. He had also 800 twice. Second olympic medalist
Khotso Mokoena of South Africa achieved legal 815 (+1.0). Third Jamaican
veteran James Beckford got 793 (+2.0). Overseas sprinters dominated. US Jeff
Porter won the 110 m
hurdles in 13.55 (+1.7) and Jamaican Josef Robertson of Racers TC the 400 m hurdles (50.21). Cuban
Roberto Skyers was the fastest in the 100 m (10.39) over Briton Rion Pierre (10.40).
Briton Larry Achike won the triple jump (16.87, +2.4) beating Momchil Karailiev
of Bulgaria (16.73, +1.6) and GrenadaÂ´s record holder Randy Lewis (16.68,
+2.5).Canadian Tabia Charles achieved 100 m (11.91, +0.7) and triple (13.96, +1.0)
double. Cyprus record holder Mariana Zahariadi cleared 436 to win the pole
vault. Austrian Veronika Watzek was the best with discus (55.88).

OTHER NEWS

BARCELONA (ESP): More than 1800
media representatives from 42 nations, 36 are European, will cover the European
Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010. A media tribune has the same
location as for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Spanish press will represent the
majority also with Germany, followed by the United Kingdom and France. There
are 14 nations who will not cover Barcelona 2010 with a journalist, among
them Andorra and Gibraltar. The Championships will be broadcasted in over 70
nations, for approximately
340 million TV viewers.

LONDON (GBR): Buckingham Palace
has announced the Queen will miss the Commonwealth Games for the first time in
almost 50 years. Prince Charles will represent the Royal Family at the Opening

MOSCOW (RUS): Russia selected
only menÂ´s team for the 14th European Cup 10 000 m which will be
staged this Saturday in Marseille. But the aim is high, the squad composed of
Rybakov twins Yevgeniy and Anatoliy, Sergey Ivanov, Stepan Kiselev and Aleksey
Reunkov wants to win. They already won in 2008 and were second in 2009.

ZHUKOVSKIY (RUS): WomenÂ´s 10 000 m race during the
Znamensky Memorial (June 26, part of IAAF World Challenge) will be the
qualifier for Russian runners for European Championships in Barcelona. It is
expected that also London Marathon winner Liliya Shobukhova along with Inga
Abitova and Mariya Konovalova will take part.

Bekele won the Brussels 20 km
in rain after 1:11:42. MenÂ´s winner was BurundiÂ´s Onesphore Nkunzimana
(1:01:29) ahead of Moroccan Najim El Qadi (1:01:31).

Bruno Junk walking meeting was won by Latvian Arnis Rumbenieks with 42:37. Also

had a Latvian winner. Agenes Pastare achieved 22:34.

Nahom Mesfin clocked 13:31.04 at 5000
m during Nittai University Distance Meet. Kenyan Mekubo

Younis Ali improved at the CAA meet the Sudanese national high jump record with
221 clearance.

Jens Werrmann and not French Dimitri Bascou won here the 110 m hurdles. The times were
13.63 and 13.68 (+1.3). Werrmann was faster in heats with 13.57 (-1.0).
