Savigne 14.72 meet record
HAVANA (CUB, May 29): During first day of Barrientos Memorial world champion Yargelis Savigne achieved new meet record 14.72 in triple jump. She missed her world lead only by 1 cm. Mabel Gay as second came close to her career best with 14.57. In other jumps Wilfredo Martinez won the long jump (813) clearly over olympic medalist Ibrahin Camejo (771). Michel Herrera was the fastest at 100 m (10.35) and William Collazo at 400 m (45.66). In women 400 m Indira Terrero achieved 51.56. In hurdles Anay Tejeda won in 13.03 and Dayron Capetillo new PB 13.57. He belongs to group of coach Santiago Antunez with world record holder Dayron Robles who plans his season opening for June 4 in Torino. In women javelin 22 years old Yainelis Ribeaux improved to 61.72 and beat former world record holder Osleidys Menendez (60.28). In discus olympic medalist Yarelis Barrios (62.04) beat her main rival Yanisley Collado (60.03). Excellent shot put by Carlos Veliz 20.40, solid discus for Jorge Fernandez 62.25 on the men side. After 17 years also US athletes competed here for first time. After first day of Copa America in combined events home Yordania Garcia leads with 3566 points and on the women side US Sharon Day (3704).
Schulze 561 meet record
INNSBRUCK (AUT, May 29): German Fabian Schulze cleared new meet record 561 cm at 5th Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck in the city historical part. US Daniel Ryland was second (535). Austrian Julian Kellerer improved to 774 and won the long jump.
NCAA REGIONALS (May 29, 1st day)
WEST (EUGENE): The best result from all regional section was here registered in men shot put as Ryan Whiting got 20.99 and Zack Lloyd 20.09. TrinidadÂ´s record holder Rhonda Watkins posted 666 (+2.6) win over German Karoline Kohler who improved to 664 (+1.8). Sri LankaÂ´s best high jumper Manjula Wijesekara cleared 225 to win. In 100 m heats Ahmad Rashad as fastest achieved windy 10.16 (+2.3).
MIDWEST (NORMAN): Here the best women sprints from all regions. Alexandria Anderson in 100 m heats equalled her PB from last year Olympic Trials and achieved new college leader 2009 (also third fastest of the year) with 11.07 (+1.4) and Porscha Lucas was also pretty fast in other heat 11.15 (+1.2) and also the fastest in 200 m heats (22.72, +0.3). Gabby Mayo posted 12.99 (+1.8) in 100 m hurdles heats and olympic medalist Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria won the long jump (665, +0.6). Jamaican Julian Reid won the long jump with first career 8 metres mark 804 (+0.1). Scott Sellers cleared 225 to win the high jump. In men sprints heats solid times for Zambian Gerald Phiri at 100 m (10.20, +1.5), Trey Harts at 200 m (20.41, +0.5) and Justin Oliver at 400 m (45.55).
EAST (GREENSBORO): Sprinter Murielle Ahoure who is now registered as Ivory Coast runner improved in 100 m heats to excellent national record 11.14 (+1.8) and clocked also windy 22.92 (+2.2) in 200 m heats. Jacoby Ford was the fastest in men 100 m heats (10.21, -0.3) and Belgian Borlee twins in menÂ´s 400 m. Kevin achieved 45.80 and Jonathan 45.84 in separate heats. Solid throws here by Chris Hill 80.34 in javelin and Serbian Milan Jotanovic 19.86 in shot put.
MIDEAST (LOUISVILLE): Another Jamaican long jumper went over 8 metres as Alain Bailey improved to 806 (-0.6) to win here. In 100 m heats different winds played the role. With +1.9 DÂ´Angelo Cherry achieved 10.21, with +2.4 Marcus Rowland 10.16 and with -2.7 Trindon Holliday 10.51. Canadian Gavin Smellie was the fastest in 200 m heats (20.43, +2.2). The fastest 800 m heat time in all regions here by Richard Jones 1:47.70 PB.
CORRECTION
NEW YORK (USA): In NY preview we wrote that Carmelita Jeter is world leader, she is not that goes to Jamaican Kerron Stewart.
