LONDON (GBR): Olympic winner in triple jump Christian Taylor said for website of World Championships in London: “To be completely honest this is the first January I’ve been healthy and not hit any kind of snags. Probably the first time since 2012. For some reason January just isn’t my month. I don’t know what it is but every January something happens but this is the first one, knock on wood, I haven’t had any issues. My coach and I were rejoicing. It puts you mentally in a better position going into the following months.”
RunBlogRun opines: The triple jump is an event that puts much pressure on the body. Way back in the 1990’s, Seb Coe noted that the triple jump was very tough on the body, in speaking about the amazing jumping of WR holder Jonathan Edwards. Same is true today. Christian Taylor has risen to the top, had challenges, and rose back to the top. Nice to see him healthy early in the year.
The big question is, can he get the world record? The answer is yes. But, in events like the TJ, and actually, in all events in our sport, world records are terribly difficult. Christian Taylor has come amazingly close. I want to be there when he breaks the WR. It will be an amazing day!
